Search for the best SEO company in Mumbai and you will find dozens of lists. Most are written by one of the companies on them, which tends to put that company first. This one is written by one of the options too, so we will say it up front: we are Local SEO Mumbai, a one-consultant local SEO service, and we are judged below on the same terms as everyone else.
Rather than ranking named companies on opinion, this guide compares the main types of SEO company in Mumbai and gives you a scorecard you can use on any of them, using only evidence you can check yourself. If you want to see what we think good service looks like in practice, our page on the best SEO services in Mumbai sets it out.
The top SEO company for you is the one that can show results for businesses like yours, tells you who will do the work, explains its prices clearly and measures success in enquiries rather than rankings. Check all four before you sign anything.
The five kinds of SEO company in Mumbai
Mumbai has hundreds of SEO providers, but they fall into five broad groups. Each one is the right choice for someone.
| Type | Typical monthly fee | Strengths | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Large digital agencies | ₹50,000+ | Big teams; SEO, ads, social and content under one roof | Junior staff on small accounts; long contracts |
| Mid-sized SEO agencies | ₹20,000–₹60,000 | Dedicated SEO teams and clear processes | Generic packages not built for local businesses |
| Local SEO specialists | ₹10,000–₹25,000 | Focus on Maps, reviews and local pages; direct contact | Limited capacity; usually no ads or social media |
| Freelancers | ₹5,000–₹15,000 | Low cost and flexible | Quality varies widely and is hard to check |
| Directory packages | Varies | Quick visibility on one platform | Leads shared with competitors; you build their asset, not yours |
Fees are typical ranges from quotes we have seen, before GST. Individual providers vary, and plenty of good companies sit outside these ranges.
Size is not the same as quality
A large agency is not automatically better, and a small one is not automatically cheaper. What matters is whether the people working on your account know local search, and how much of their time you actually get. A ₹60,000 retainer split across ads, social media and SEO can mean fewer hours on your Google profile than a ₹15,000 local SEO plan.
How to compare them: public evidence only
Anyone can call themselves the top SEO company in Mumbai. These eight checks rely on evidence that is public, or that a good company will happily show you. Score each company you are considering from 0 to 2 on each check, and compare the totals.
| Check | How to verify it | What good looks like |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Their own reviews | Search their name on Google Maps | Steady, recent reviews from real, named businesses |
| 2. Case studies with data | Ask for Search Console or Business Profile screenshots | Results for businesses like yours, shared with permission |
| 3. Their own visibility | Search for what they sell, in their own area | They show up for their own service |
| 4. Who does the work | Ask for the name of the person on your account | A named specialist you can speak to directly |
| 5. Prices | Their website or a written quote | A clear monthly price and what it includes |
| 6. Contract terms | Read the agreement before paying | A reasonable minimum, clear notice period, no penalty traps |
| 7. Ownership | Ask directly | Website, domain and profile stay in your name |
| 8. Reporting | Ask for a sample report | Calls, messages and enquiries, not only rankings |
If a company can’t pass checks 2, 4 and 7, keep looking, whatever its size and wherever it appears on a list.
How to read “top 10” lists
Lists of the top SEO companies in Mumbai are useful for finding names, and not much more. Some are published by directories that charge for placement or rank paying members higher. Others are written by an agency that, unsurprisingly, comes first. A few are genuinely independent, but it is rarely clear which.
Review platforms like Clutch and GoodFirms are a step better because reviews are tied to verified clients, though they favour larger agencies that sell to bigger companies. Google reviews remain the most useful signal for local businesses, because they come from the same kind of customer you are.
So use lists to build a shortlist of five or so names, then run each one through the scorecard above.
Red flags to watch for
Whichever company you are looking at, any of these should make you walk away:
- Guaranteed number one rankings, or rankings promised “in 30 days”.
- Hundreds of keywords promised for a small local business.
- Fake or bought reviews, on their own profile or offered for yours.
- Advice to add keywords to your business name on Google, which breaks Google’s rules.
- No named person, no address and no way to check past work.
- Reports that only show rankings for phrases you have never heard a customer use.
Which type of company fits your business
- One location, wants more calls: a local SEO specialist or a strong freelancer.
- Several branches across the city: a specialist with multi-location experience, or a mid-sized agency.
- Needs ads, social media and SEO together: a full-service agency.
- Sells online across India: an agency with ecommerce SEO experience. Local SEO is the wrong tool.
- Tight budget, time to learn: do the basics yourself with our step-by-step local SEO guide, then hire help when you outgrow it.
Whichever type you choose, ask what you will pay before the first call ends. Our breakdown of SEO cost in Mumbai shows what each price range usually buys.
Where we fit, honestly
We are a local SEO specialist. Here are our own answers to the scorecard, so you can check them rather than take our word for it.
| Check | Our answer |
|---|---|
| Case studies | Three Pune client sites, with Google screenshots shared with permission |
| Who does the work | Yogesh Jadhav, the founder, on every account |
| Prices | Published: ₹10,000, ₹15,000 and ₹20,000+ a month, plus GST |
| Contract | Six-month minimum, then monthly; no setup fee |
| Ownership | Your website, domain and profile stay in your name |
| Reporting | Monthly calls, direction requests, WhatsApp clicks and leads |
Where we are not the right choice: if you need Google Ads, social media management, ecommerce SEO or rankings across India, a larger agency will serve you better. We also take on a limited number of clients at a time, because one person does the work.
The fairest test is the free audit. Ask us and two or three others for one, and compare what each finds. You can also read the client case studies before deciding.
How to shortlist in 30 minutes
- Pick three to five companiesFrom search results, lists or recommendations from other business owners.
- Check reviews and visibility (10 minutes)Look at each company’s Google reviews, and whether it shows up for its own service in its own area.
- Read one case study each (10 minutes)Check that it has real data from Google, not just a quote and a logo.
- Request a free audit (10 minutes)Ask each one to look at your business, and compare what they find.
The audit is the most useful test of all. A good company will find specific problems with your profile and website and explain them plainly. A weak one will send a generic report that could be about any business.

Put us through the same test
Ask for a free audit, compare it with what others send you, and decide on the evidence. Or see how we think about choosing an SEO provider.
